Rojales – Alicante – España
Rojales is a community in the Comunidad Valenciana in Spain. Situaties in the provincie of Alicante, in the region of the Vega Baja del Segura, on the banks of the river Segura that cuts through the historic centre of the town for more than two kilometres in a last meander before issuing into the Mediterranean Sea. Therefore we find a beautiful natural stone bridge from the days of King Carlos III from the 18th century, which has not only been very well preserved but is used every day. Today, Rojales is a community with a well developed service sector, but without losing the original agricultural character. There is an very active cultural sector, around the many interesting museums (Archeological Museum, Agricultural Museum, Museum of the Holy Week and the Eco Museum….) and theatre, seat of the National Contest of Cradle- and Christmas Songs, one of the oldest and most important contests of the country. At the same time, a large building restoration project takes place in the Barrio de las Cuevas, the Cave area, at this moment the place for a variety of artistical and handicraft activities. The large number of high quality housing projects, partly there for many years already, has produced communities of various European nationalities, mostly British and German. With La Marquesa, finally, Rojales possesses one of the oldest golf courses of the region.
